12. Next generation battery systems for road transport and mobility applications

TEMPEST coordinator, Jeremy Warren, presented the project’s latest progress during the 2026 Results from Road Transport Research (RTR) Conference, in the session “Next generation battery systems for road transport and mobility applications.” It was moderated by Martha Gialampouki (CINEA) and Bozorg Khanbaei (BEPA) and brought together European initiatives working to improve performance, safety and scalability of future battery technologies.

The presentation positioned TEMPEST as a system-engineering project, not just a battery chemistry project. Its objective is to remove key barriers to large-scale electrification safety, manufacturability, recyclability and adaptability by redesigning how battery packs are structured and monitored across their lifecycle. The work contributes to safer, lighter and more sustainable energy storage for future road transport.

The session also featured related research projects, including VERSAPRINT and EXTENDED, part of EU-INGENIOuS Cluster.
